Every year, as winter’s chill melts away and vibrant blooms burst forth, Yeti College comes alive with the joyful spirit of Holi, India’s Festival of Colors. This ancient celebration—marking the triumph of good over evil and the arrival of spring—brings together students, faculty, and staff in a kaleidoscope of laughter, music, and friendship. Here’s how we made this year’s Holi an unforgettable splash of color and community.
1. Setting the Stage: Color Zones & Music Beats
-
Designated Color Zones: To keep things organized and safe, we laid out four “color zones” on the courtyard: pink, yellow, green, and blue. Each zone featured eco-friendly, skin-safe powders.
-
Live DJ & Dance Circle: A student-run DJ booth pumped Bollywood hits and remix beats—everyone from first-years to professors couldn’t resist forming an impromptu dance circle.
2. Traditional Rituals with a Modern Twist
-
Bonfire of Holika: On the eve of Holi, we gathered for the Holika Dahan ceremony. A symbolic bonfire (complete with handcrafted puppets) reminded us of the legend of Prahlad and Holika—followed by marshmallow roasting and chai under the stars.
-
Color-Blast Countdown: At noon, a 3-2-1 countdown led to a synchronized color blast. Hundred-strong arms flung handfuls of powder into the air, creating a rainbow cloud that drifted over campus paths and classrooms alike.
3. Culinary Delights & Holi Sweets
-
Gujiya & Thandai Stations: No Holi is complete without these classics! Student volunteers served piping-hot gujiyas (sweet dumplings stuffed with coconut and khoya) and frothy thandai spiced with cardamom and saffron.
-
Global Fusion Booths: To reflect our multicultural campus, we also tried Holi-inspired twists—matcha-thandai from Japan Club, mango-gujiya popsicles from the Indian Food Society, and even a chocolate-colored Holi cake by the Culinary Arts students.
4. Capturing the Moments: Photo & Art Walls
-
Color-Splash Photo Booth: Complete with oversized Holi props (giant paintbrushes, rainbow umbrellas, funky sunglasses), the booth was a hit. Prints were on-the-spot—friends took home vibrant snapshots to remember the day.
-
Community Art Mural: A blank white canvas wall invited every passerby to leave a handprint. By afternoon, it had transformed into a living mosaic of every faculty, student club, and staff member present.
5. Reflection & Community Impact
-
Charity Color Run: This year, our Holi celebrations supported a local children’s home. Participants donated a small fee to join a 2 km color run, and the proceeds went toward educational supplies and play equipment.
-
Sustainability Pledge: All powders were biodegradable and vegetable-dye based, and biodegradable banners and streamers lined the quad. After the event, campus green teams collected leftover colors and composted them responsibly.
Why Holi at Yeti College Matters
Holi isn’t just about throwing colors—it’s about breaking barriers, forgiving grievances, and celebrating diversity. At Yeti College, this festival strengthens cross-cultural friendships, instills pride in tradition, and reminds us that joy is at its fullest when shared.
Whether you’re a budding artist, a future engineer, or a world-traveler in training, Holi at Yeti College is an invitation: grab a handful of color, make a new friend, and join in the laughter. After all, at the heart of every bright smear and smiling face lies the simple truth—that sometimes, all you need to paint a perfect day is a bit of color and a lot of community spirit.
